Chapter Five

Sasha

I will never fall in love with Dmitri.

I will only use him for my protection.

I won't be so foolish to marry or have children with him.

“It’s easy to repeat all those words, Lily, but…”

I look at myself in the mirror and remember how Dmitri and I made love with while looking at it. I dreaded moments like those with Gabriel, but Dmitri made it special. He fell asleep before me for the first time, and I watched him sleep. Nothing in my heart tells me I could be wrong for loving him. The wounds Gabriel gave me were deep and painful, but Dmitri erased the pain with his sincere love.

My heart can't be faithful to Dmitri as parts of it are still a fool for Gabriel. "But he's the one I want to love more, Lily," I sit on the tub and declare, "I have fallen for him. I want to protect him, too. I would love to be his wife and the mother of our children."

“I understand, and I’m happy for you, Sasha,” Lily suddenly screams at the other end.

“What? What happened?”

"I'm just excited about you, girl! I know I've become obsessed about this revenge plan, but I'll be behind this choice," Lily laughs. "Ah, this makes me want Declan to knock me up."

“You’re still seeing him? Lily!”

"Just for sex, okay? The guy is good at it," Lily giggles like a little girl. "And I'm making sure he has no information about our connection and to that crazy Anya."

I fall silent at the mention of Anya and become terrified for Lily. Gabriel loved Anya more than anyone else in this world. He even allowed her to hurt me. He won't think twice about harming or killing Lily and me if he discovers what we did to his precious Anya.

“Please, Lily. Stop seeing Declan. He and Gabriel are the same,” I beg her. “They don’t spare anyone.”

"I know. I promise, Sasha. When it becomes too dangerous, I'll run away immediately," Lily assures me. "I want to be at your wedding."

"He hasn't even talked about it," I frown and sigh.

I'm about to say more when I hear something tumble from the walk-in closet. I look at Lily and give her a sign that I should hang up. Something big makes a crashing sound. Dmitri. Forgetting about my safety, I rush outside, screaming his name.

“D-Dmitri?” I ask while approaching the closet. My eyes widen after seeing all my clothes on the floor. I look up and find Dmitri staring at me. His eyes have turned dark blue from anger. “What happened?”

I cover my face when he suddenly throws something at me. I glare at him before looking at what he threw. "D-Dmitri, I can explain," I say upon seeing the box of the injectable contraceptive Lily gave me.

"Explain what? That you've been playing me for a fool all this time?" Dmitri asks. His hoarse voice tells how furious he is. "You talked about how I can be loyal to you when you've never been honest with me.
